Briefs: 3Com expands VoIP line for branch offices
3Com is offering an expanded line of communications platforms to support Voice over Internet Protocol services for corporate branch offices.
The V6000 Integrated Communications platform is touted by 3Com as being designed for multiple IP applications required by dispersed offices and easy set up in remote locations.
"Since the platform has built-in connectivity ports to the network, as well as VCX call control and IP messaging software, small branch locations can be deployed quickly and with a minimal amount of equipment," the Massachusetts company said in a release. "Because system management can be done remotely, no on-site telephony expertise is required."
The V6000 platform runs on 3M's VCX IP Telephony module, which the company said displayed robust "survivability" in recent tests by the consulting group Miercom. Survivability refers to the ability of one communications system to connect with another even as hardware and other components are upgraded and changed.
