Briefs: Cisco mobile billing capacity tops 200M
January 27, 2006Cisco Systems said Friday its content billing solution has been deployed widely enough to cover more than 200 million wireless-phone users.
Cisco said more than 25 wireless carriers around the world have adopted its Billing Content solution to handle payments for the growing list of games, messaging and other services that go along with basic voice communications services.
"Competition for the delivery of mobile voice and data services has become fierce," said Cisco Vice President Larry Lang. "By deploying Cisco's Content Billing solution, mobile operators can provide their customers with a myriad of payment options."
Lang added that his company's product solves the dilemma of an operator's inability to distinguish the various types of accessed content that are transmitted over Radio Access Network. This allows operators to use a different means of tallying costs other than the time-duration method that works fine for voice billing, but is considered extremely inaccurate when measuring downloaded content.
