Chinese-manufactured toothpaste recalled
August 8, 2007The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has announced the recall of Chinese-manufactured DentaPro and Bright Max toothpaste due to possible contamination.
The products, distributed by Donnamax Inc. of Brooklyn, N.Y., might contain diethylene glycol, also known as DEG or diglycol, that can pose a health risk for children and people with kidney or liver disease .
DentaPro brand cavity fighting fluoride toothpaste was sold in "fresh spearmint flavor" in 6.4-ounce tubes bearing UPC 871290-000625. Bright Max Toothpaste, Item No. 9111, was also distributed in 6.4-ounce tubes.
The recalled products were sold by retail stores in New York, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Mississippi, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida and Idaho.
The FDA said consumers should stop using the products and either return them to the place of purchase or discard them.
