U.K. foot-in-mouth reports submitted

September 2, 2007

Reports on the latest outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in Britain have been turned over to government officials.

The results of the two inquiries were not immediately reviewed but will be published next week, The Independent said Saturday.

One of the reports deals specifically with the outbreak that occurred in Surrey while the other focuses on a broader issue of biosecurity, the British newspaper said.

The strain of the disease was the same as one used by researchers at a laboratory in Pirbright hired by the government and a pharmaceutical company. An interim report said the outbreak possibly originated at the facility.
