Mislabeled Winn-Dixie ice cream recalled

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of Winn-Dixie Prestige Chocolate Ice Cream because of erroneous package labeling.
Winn-Dixie Stores Inc. initiated the voluntary recall of the 1.75-quart cartons of ice cream because some might not have correctly identified almonds as being among the ingredients. People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to almonds run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume such products.

The recalled ice cream is marked with plant code of 12-356 and an expiration date of "JUN 25 08" on a white strip on the side of the carton. The cartons might incorrectly indicate the product inside is chocolate ice cream, while the lid might state the product is chocolate almond.

The recalled "Prestige Chocolate Ice Cream" was distributed to Winn-Dixie and Save-Rite stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Louisiana, and Mississippi.

Consumers with questions can contact the company at 866-946-6349.
