Rare butterfly puts stop to construction

Norwegian officials have stopped a major construction project in Halden after the endangered Chequered Blue Butterfly (Scolitantides orion) was spotted.

The Torpbukta area in Iddefjorden, Halden, is the only place in Norway where it is possible to find the rare butterfly, Aftenposten said Thursday.

A decision on the development, which includes 10 homes and five cabins, will be made after consulting with officials in Halden, the newspaper said.
