Briefs: Nokia unveils base for new spectrum

March 13, 2006

Nokia Monday introduced a multi-radio platform base station that will work on spectrum bands slated for auction by the Federal Communications Commission.

The Flex Base Station is designed for easy deployment of third-generation and/or wireless broadband networks in the 700 megahertz and 1,700-2,100 MHz spectrum.

Nokia said in a release that the Flex Base Station was part of a wider strategy of optimizing equipment for the wireless spectrum that will become available in the United States and North America after the FCC auction this summer.

Nokia also said in a release the Base Station line would reduce expenditures from current wide-area stations by 70 percent and will begin coming on the market in the second half of 2006 and on into 2007.
