Briefs: India plans to cull 75,000 birds
March 15, 2006More reports of avian flu outbreaks in India have reportedly led government officials in New Delhi to order the cull of 75,000 birds in four villages.
The first reports of bird flu came about a month ago from Navapur in Nandoorbag. The viral disease has been detected in four villages in the Jalgaon district in Maharashtra, zeenews.com reported Wednesday.
Officials of India's Health Ministry and Animal Husbandry Department said rapid-response teams of experts had been sent to the affected areas and no cases involving the spread of avian flu to humans had been reported.
