Briefs: XO adds origination to wholesale VoIP

March 15, 2006

XO communications Wednesday added a voice-origination service to its wholesale Voice over Internet Protocol solutions.

The new service gives VoIP providers end-to-end interconnection, transport and origination of local calls in the United States through a single IP connection.

Company officials said the XO VoIP Origination increases nationwide voice-management, eliminates the need to maintain voice gateways and allows faster entry into new markets.

The system accepts incoming calls from either IP or TDM (Time Division Multiplexing) connections and routes them across XO's OC-192 network to the recipient's IP or TDM connection.

Along with intercity transport and system monitoring, VoIP Origination offers retail features such as caller ID, number portability and directory listings.
