"Brazil to Crack Down on Deforestation"?!?! NO, they won't. It will never happen. The crackdown is on poor people. 20 per cent of the Amazon forest has vanished in 40 years and no one has the remotest idea where the money is... because it's nowhere. That takes a whole system designed exclusively for that end, and if something goes wrong, the poor get blamed in court and in the media.

Nothing has changed.

I wonder if it's possible to get CO2 credit for having a forest that reduces harmful greenhouse gases that contribute to global warming and at the same time provide us humans with fresh oxygen to breath. I think that anything that can help reduce harmful gases and benefit the earth deserves some kind of credit, in the same way a company does for reducing the amount of carbon dioxide that they create. Maybe than the poor people that lives in or around the forest areas wouldn't have to cut down the trees to provide food and shelter for their families..

How could someone 'illegally' deforest 6000 square miles without anyone noticing?

"Shhh, be very quiet when logging the entire Amazon rainforest or you'll wake the security guard"
