Singapore seeks ideas for broadband net

Singapore's government is accepting ideas for a wireless broadband network that would cover the entire nation.

The Infocomm Development Authority issued a Request for Concept (RFT) Thursday and will accept input from interested companies on their ideas for the ultra-high-speed system until July 15.

Singapore's Next Generation National Broadband Network will offer speeds up to 100 megabits per second and "will entrench Singapore's Infocomm hub status and open the doors to new economic opportunities, business growth and social vibrancy for the country," Infocomm said in a news release.

Infocomm's RFT is looking for proposals on the design, financing, construction and operation of the Next Generation project and will use the proposals to develop the specifications for the project that will be included in the formal Request for Proposals that will come later this year.
