NORTEL, SIERRA BOAST EV-DO REVISION A TEST

Nortel and Sierra Wireless Friday announced the first test calls using the EV-DO Revision A technology that is expected to run faster wireless applications. 
The successful over-the-air tests bode well for EV-DO Revision as a means to next-generation wireless broadband services that will be a new revenue stream for wireless operators, the companies said in a statement from Vancouver.

EV-DO Revision A is capable of peak data rates of 3.1 megabits per second for downlink and 1.8 Mbps on the uplink.

The EV-DO equipment for the tests was supplied by Nortel while Sierra provided AirCard 595 wide-area wireless network cards and Sierra Wireless MC5725 PCI Express Mini Card embedded modules.

"Joint interoperability testing, particularly with new network technologies like EV-DO Revision A, enables wireless operators to assess the quality and reliability of new technologies," said Jim Kirkpatrick, chief technology officer for Sierra Wireless.
