Texas county passes on spaceport plan

February 6, 2008

The Kenedy Memorial Foundation in Texas says it has decided against offering ranch land in Kenedy County for a spaceport resort.

Foundation Chief Executive Officer Marc Cisneros said the company Space Access is looking for about 25,000 acres for commercial sub-orbital flights and a space-themed resort, the Corpus Christi Caller-Times said Tuesday.

"Right now, based on what we saw, what they wanted to do, the aspects of it were not of interest to the foundation," he told the newspaper.

Space Access President Steve Wurst has said he is considering several sites in Texas. The company plans to offer commercial space flights within the next four years at a price similar to that of an ocean cruise.
