Briefs: Ericsson integrates Marconi's broadband

March 27, 2006

Ericsson launched an integrated broadband network that will combine its access system with that of Marconi's, which it bought out earlier this year.

"Operators will be faced with a vast range of strategic and technology choices over the next few years for their broadband transformation. They need an infrastructure partner capable of guiding them through this transformation process and of providing solutions that will support their broadband strategies and business models today and in the future," said Karl Thedeen, vice president of wireless at Ericsson.

Ericsson's broadband network portfolio will also support many of the new access technologies and standards expected to be rolled out widely over the coming years. These include VDSL2 for high-speed DSL access, Gigabit-Passive Optical Networks, Ethernet in the first mile for fiber access and radio standards such as WiMax and HSDPA for fixed wireless and mobile broadband applications.
