Study Finds 1 in 4 US Teens Has a STD (AP)

(AP) -- At least one in four teenage American girls has a sexually transmitted disease, suggests a first-of-its-kind federal study that startled some adolescent-health experts.

Aren't they compiling these statistics by using the results from various STD testing clinics though? If that's the case, then I'm not sure if that's necessarily a good representitive sample population. However, if they using some other method of collecting the STD data to get a better representitive sample of the population, which I highly doubt though, then this is truly a cause for concern.

How many teens are there in the US? 12 million? 24 million?

Quantum_flux - the study was based on a survey sent out to random girls in that age group who consented to being tested for those four STD's.

Wow, thats alarming! The problem with condoms is that they highly diminish sensual pleasure so their acceptance and therefore effectiveness will always be limited.

A massive confidential screening campaign compounded by educational efforts and more research should be undertaken.
