Open Wireless Network May Not Be So Open

(AP) -- With its winning $4.7 billion bid last week, Verizon Wireless didn't just stake claim to beachfront wireless property, it also grabbed control of the guest list to the open-access party.

And we see the beginnings of a new monopoly. It's just a matter of time before Verizon slowly up's the ante in favor of higher profits, and edging the competition out of the #1 spot. They say it's all to provide the customer with better service. I say the bottom line is making the most profits for the stockholders, and by giving more services, they can charge more to the customer. You know they'll nickle and dime the customer to death with fees for all the new features. Open, yes... open your wallet and be prepared to pay for each little added service, separately. I remember cable TV starting out much the same. Now if you want more than the basic channels, you pay extra for each additional package deal. And you can expect them to bundle a bunch of features you won't use, along with the one's you do. Thus you'll be paying for features you don't even want, but won't be able to buy separate from their respective packages.

Need to develop new protocol that "hides" in acceptable communication modalities.
