Historic grounds may be probed for ghosts

March 31, 2008

Iowa's Carroll Area Paranormal Team may be approved to conduct a ghost hunt at the Johnson County Poor Farm and asylum, officials said.

The Johnson County Board of Supervisors gave preliminary approval for the ghost study after Brandon Cochran, of the Johnson County Historical Society, proposed it Thursday, the Iowa City (Iowa) Press-Citizen reported.

Cochran said the scientific exploration is aimed returning attention to the poor farm's historical relevance by eliminating the stigma that it's haunted.

"We're using it to make sure the site is the site and nothing else," Cochran said.

The Carroll Area Paranormal Team became involved with the site after a group of Cornell College students presented an online display about it in class.

If the plan is approved, the Carroll Area Paranormal Team will spend one night collecting data at the poor farm, the Press-Citizen reported.
