Herbal Science-brand supplements recalled

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of 12 Herbal Science-brand dietary supplements because they might present a health hazard.

The manufacturer, Herbal Science International Inc., also known as Jen-On Herbal Science International Inc. of City of Industry, Calif., said the supplements contain ephedra, aristolochic acid or human placenta -- all of which might cause varying hazards, such as dangerous effects on the heart and kidneys, the FDA said.

The supplements being recalled are:

-- Wu Yao Shun Qi San.

-- Qing Bi Tang (Nasal Cleanser).

-- Zhong Fong Huo Luo Wan (Stroke Revito Formula).

-- Xiao Qing Long Tang (Little Green Dragon).

-- Ding Chuan Tang.

-- Xiao Xu Ming Tang.

-- Feng Shi Zhi Tong Wan (Joint Relief).

-- Guo Min Bi Yan Wan.

-- Fang Feng Tong Sheng San.

-- Tou Tong San (Headache Formula).

-- Du Huo Ji Sheng Tang (Du Huo Joint Relief).

-- Seng Jong Tzu Tong Tan.

All 12 products, packed in white plastic bottles of 100 capsules, were sold nationwide.
