Astronauts to talk with selected students

The U.S. space agency says some U.S. students will be talking this week with the astronauts who will service the Hubble Space Telescope.

The astronauts will speak to the selected middle school students at 1:15 p.m. EDT Wednesday from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md.

Through NASA's Digital Learning Network students at five middle schools and an invited student audience at Goddard will talk with the shuttle crew. Topics will include details about the upcoming STS-125 mission to service Hubble and the crew's career diversity. Each has a doctoral degree in a science, technology, engineering and mathematics discipline.

NASA said the goal of the event is to link students and educators with NASA experts.

Schools selected to participate are Arturo Toscanini Junior High School 145 in New York; Brenham Junior High School, Brenham, Texas; South Puget Intertribal Planning Agency, Shelton, Wash.; Greencastle-Antrim Middle School, Greencastle, Pa.; and Parkside Middle School in Jackson, Mich.

STS-125 is to be flown on the space shuttle Atlantis and launch in August.
