I don't care if they have to turn all the polar bears into rugs, it's time to drill for the oil. Of course the reality is that the bears will be just fine even with drilling. The only ones that will be upset are the self centered environmentalist.

It is those who care not about our environment who are truly the self-centered, believing, as they do, that the Universe and all it holds are their God given property to use and abuse as suits their wants.

Egnite: It's YOUR lust for oil that requires exploration. Oil makes possible your lifestyle. Do you own a car? Use public transport? Hold a job? Enjoy air conditioning in summer? Heating in winter? Eat fresh fruits and vegetables? Use computers? All these things are brought to you by oil and the evil companies that dare provide it to you. If you lived your convictions you could not post such drivel, for you'd be living in a cave as a hunter/gatherer.

Perhaps, it would be best to show the way. Don't live like a windup Al Gore doll, saying one thing while reaping the benefits of that which appalls you. Live life without any fossil fuels. No gas or diesel cars, airlines, electricity, or anything you can buy at the store for that matter. Be brave and live the life and then you will have respect you don't have now.

in order to live the life we want/need to live, we still have to cajole a certain reluctant oil-man/president to lead the way.

now, i'm not a big believer in neo-primitivism, and i'm not against electrical consumption per se; but without our government doing the right thing as regards adequate funding, how are any alternatives to oil going to get their foot in the door?

i doubt most oil execs are "evil", bust they most certainly ARE selfish, in that they're not going to let a small matter of public/world health get in the way of a good profit. if we gave HALF the breaks to the OTHER energy industries, we'd simply not have the need to drill in places we shouldn't be drilling....
