(AP) -- A Chinese astronaut on Saturday performed the nation's first-ever spacewalk, the latest milestone in an ambitious program that is increasingly rivaling the United States and Russia in its rapid expansion.

We claimed outer space first. I think this is grounds for war. And now they want our moon too.
I say we nuke their space station if they put in our territory.

"Space cooperation between China and other nations has so far been limited and the U.S. has refused Chinese involvement in the international space station for fear it could gain technical secrets applicable to its arms industry."

FEAR? I had to listen how glorious China is for weeks when it came to the stupid Olympics.

China manufactures practically everything for the world...now there is FEAR that they may use this space technology against the US in an arms race?

Give me a break, its a little too late for holding back the Chinese now.

They could be the next superpower soon, they are not broke with 10 trillion owing and 700 billion of funny money waiting to be printed.

And they are well on there way to using their coal to fuel liquidation technology without a care about carbon dioxide.

The US has no immediate energy reserves, all development is being held back by congress and enviro hippies like Al Gore.

Good luck in the space race soon it will be China in the lead.

I guess, there will certainly be a need for an international body to manage and observe space missions etc of countries just like IAEA. Once the competition heats up (i mean between rival countries) failure rates will increase and exploration and science today will lead to a determination for control tomorrow. We all know what will happen afterwards, dont we.

Frankly I see their stepped-up space program as being a good thing for other nations. I believe it will re-spark public enthusiasm (and funds both private and public) for a new space race much like the US and USSR race. Speeded up advancements in space tech is a win for everyone IMO.

Interesting...in a recent British news journal interview of approximately 75 people in mainland China during the Olympics, NONE had ever heard of the US having done spacewalks or even of the U.S. moon landings. One can theorize then that these people have either been kept in the dark for decades or they are simply too afraid of their own government to admit that someone else is more advanced than they are. Therefore, the majority of them parrot the line that they are the first ever to space-walk and that they will be the first on the moon...so much for the worker's paradise and Communist freedom of speech...
