Ok, not that I'm saying the LHC is going to destroy the world (because it really isn't), but I REALLY don't agree with the judge's ruling.

What if a foregin country wanted to test a bomb with an expected yield of a million megatons? We wouldn't have the jurisdiction to stop that...waaaa?

Legal jurisdiction wouldn't matter a bit, in either case. Legal only matters if both parties recognize, and agree to be bound by, decisions made.

It would be a military matter, not a matter of the courts.

In that case the court should have made a ruling that these guys are "nutjobs" and dismissed the case...not made a ruling like this IMO.

This is a prime example of a high severity, low probability event. I hope whichever insurance companies have provided insurance on property or risk located on Planet Earth have prudently reinsured with financially strong galactic reinsurers.

There will always be those that fear the worst possible scenario. The source of their information and the probability of scenario seem to be irrelevent. I blame the media for the their increasing numbers. I have been seeing headlines like this from FoxNews (the worst) and CNN for months. This one is from FoxNews and is their coverage of this same story.

So right, GIR, totally misinformed "experts" combined with unquestioning and ill-informed Internet postings are only amplified by news organizations repeating 'dire predictions' leaving the average person bewildered. And just try refuting the media hype with rational thought gets one nowhere.Guess its a symptom of the world we live in today.

Someone has "money to burn"? Let them bail out the U.S. The "Higgs Boson" didn't create mass anyway! It's not "What Did?" It's "Who Did !"
