It's mostly the fishing methods that are employed now, basically filtering a swath of ocean out and leaving a desert and discarded offal behind.
I'm not sure how it would help the fishing industry, but my biggest beef (HAR HAR) with land-based meat production is how so many animals are raised, slaughtered, butchered, offered as meat for sale, then thrown out because no one bought them. I would have absolutely no problem just placing an order with a local butcher every week for what I would need, and having it made to order. A little less convenient, but so much more efficient. And as feed stock prices soar, I think the time for this is sooner rather than later...
