NY regulators get tough on Verizon FiOS installs

By PETER SVENSSON , AP Technology Writer, Technology / Telecom
(AP) -- New York regulators have raised the possibility of banning Verizon Communications Inc. from installing its fiber-optic FiOS service in New York City until the company makes sure it's doing enough to provide electrical grounding for its equipment in homes.

Makotech: For your sake I hope they do. Your state will hopefully be smarter than mine (NY) and not become party to the cble companies crap. This is clearly cable trying to put off having to deal with FiOS...or else why wouldn't NY look at cable, which actually conducts electricity, extra hard?

I am really tired of seeing Verizon FiOS commercials. FiOS is not available in my area, so when the do the whole Verizon FiOS, what do you have? *list* Cable guy, what do you have? Stuff... too?
I'd like to replace the cable guy's line with SERVICES IN YOUR AREA.

I don't know if cable internet companies are more available, but I know FiOS doesn't go to my house, and I live in Philadelphia, a pretty big city. I'd give it a try if they would sell it to me. One last thing that pisses me off... they never mention any prices in their commercials. That is important to me, because sure, I could get 10 times faster internet, but I can already download okay quality video faster than I can watch it with my old fashioned DSL. I'd have to work pretty hard to put those kind of speeds to good use.

Why don't they just add a grounding wire like the cable companies do? It is pretty easy to do and those wires don't even hold extreme voltages. Ive held cable wires before and got a small "Jolt" from them but nothing to be concerned about as long as they are grounded properly...
