Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will roll out a new feature, controlled by a computer chip in the key, that allows parents to limit the car's speeds to 80 mph and set a maximum volume for the audio system on some 2010 models. (AP) -- So you think junior is a little too lead-footed when he drives the family car? Starting next year, Ford Motor Co. will give you the power to do something about it.

Ducking GREAT idea!!

I'd limit it to 50mpg.

As for accelerating to avoid a crash, thats BS and any experienced driver knows that.

I, for one, wont be giving my children a new car. So I want to retrofit a 10yo car with the same ability. Hope they bring that into consideration.

Not a great idea! Take into account the array of items teens are chipping or modding today.....Just another item to drive up the price of the car. And repairs to the system are going to be expensive.

Lol, I find that power quite often pulls you out of a dangerous situation but not necessarily speed. If you've never had to experience that then you've been lucky so far. I hope you can find the power when u vitally need it :-P

If "kids" are old enough to drive, I doubt they'll act according to thier parents fears but more likely as they desire. Get over it and give them the trust they deserve.

"there may be emergency situations where she'd have to drive more than 80, possibly to accelerate to avoid a crash."

... When?

Am I the only one getting fed up with new products called "My"-whatever?

"Hey Lou, here's MyKey?"
"Your key? Abbot, I thought it was my key!"
"It's only your key when I give you your MyKey."
"But if it's your key, then what's that in your hand?"
"That's your MyKey."
"HOW CAN IT BE YOUR KEY IF IT'S MY KEY?!?"
etc. etc. etc.

In Car Camera's?
Speed limiters?
GPS Tracking?

Sorry, I don't want Big Brother telling me what to do, so I won't impose that philosophy upon my children either.

Trust is a big thing between family, and by doing this your installing mistrust within your family.

Any parent that feels they require this, I feel sorry for you.
