'Globe' at the entrance of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) is seen in Switzerland. It launched a multi-billion-dollar machine on the French-Swiss border last month, aimed at shedding light on the "Big Bang" that scientists say created the universe.

Boosted by its win of the 2008 Nobel Physics Prize, Japan said Wednesday it hoped to play host to a major international scientific organisation's new machine exposing the secrets of the cosmos.

More power to them. While I think all countries should be interested making advances in physics, Japan definitely has the know-how as demonstrated in their other fields of technology.

I can't wait to learn the results of their neutrino experiments. Neutral particles are a whole new frontier waiting for us to take full advantage of them... Once we get an understanding of their nature.
