(AP) -- Apple Inc. touched up its line of laptop computers Tuesday with a minimal nod to the economic turmoil that might push consumers to be more frugal this holiday shopping season.

consumers allow it to happen, so do you really expect apple to stop? or, for that matter, any other company in its stead??

I love how a box that costs more than a thousand dollars is spun as "entry-level". There are quite workable laptops out there for a couple hundred.

I still have no idea why people buy those things.

Well the O/S is pretty good, but the hardware has always been overpriced and underpowered and don't even get me started on the 1 button mouse...

Most people i know who buy Macs do it so that people will think they are cool and popular. My 17 year old niece's Macbook takes like 15 minutes to boot up and when i offered to buy her a nice ACER Core2 Duo with Vista she gave me a look only a teenage girl can come up with and spouted Mac fanboy language about PC's being for lamers only.

Macs start out with higher spec components (mother board speed/quality, RAM, CPU, video card, etc).
Of course you can upgrade a PC to the same level but then you would end up paying the 1,000 dollars.
The Mac OS is also just a matter of taste. If you like PC then buy PC.

Why is this news here? Companies launch new laptop lines all the time. There is nothing special about these machines from apple other than the fact that they have a cult following. It really cheapens the site to turn it in to yet another marketing outlet for apple. What's next xtian propaganda? Seriously a site about science should be unbiased and unsullied by fanboy adverts.

Mac OS is good and stable, almost as good as the FREE open source unix it was spun from, so OS being good or not should have little to do with cost, ubuntu is good, but I wouldn't pay for it, donate maybe.
