    This is a great idea!! I think that it would be even better if they completely shut down the engines once they are on the gentle flight path for landing. That would give the pilots incentive to do everything right to save that last teaspoon of fuel. Sure this will probably cost a few lives, but I bet it will delay Global Warming by three or four minutes, one hundred years from now. And that's a good thing. :)

    And the reason they come in on sharp descents is? Because of the housing around the airports and the noise abatement laws?
