Big particle collider repairs to cost $21 million

(AP) -- Fixing the world's largest atom smasher will cost at least 25 million francs ($21 million) and may take until early summer, its operator said Monday.

Give me $50, I'll have the wire soldered in a few minutes then we can fire this thing up.
Like a $20 repair on a $10,000 car.
Its not the wire, it's the damage that was done because of the bad wire. If I remember correctly, one of the superconducting magnets quenched, causing the liquid helium that cools the magnets to be nearly instantly boiled, blowing apart a section of this $10 billion machine. Cost to repair that section and re-cool the whole shebang = $20 million.
