greensky- Flax and other vegetable source provide omega-3 in the form of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA). Marine sources provide the forms docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) & eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) both of those have been shown to reduce the risk of heart attack and evidence of a host of other benefits.
The body can covert ALA to EPA & DHA but not very efficiently.
