Greener cars the price for automaker aid

"Some are arguing that, given the very difficult economic situation, we can no longer afford our climate change and energy package," the president of the European Commission, Jose Manuel Barroso (pictured), said in Lisbon on Friday.

As giant auto makers beg governments to bail them out of the economic crisis that has brought them to their knees, some authorities have named a price -- make greener cars to drive.

if you want greener cars, just tax gas more. its that easy. stop trying to bully the businesses into selling shit consumers wont want and wont buy. this is the same crappy socialist auto green business model they sell in the states to congress for 20 years and it doesnt and hasnt worked. RAISE GAS TAXES and lower electricity taxes.

Agreed. At least make gasoline prices reflect their true cost to the consumer. When you take into account other factors like transport and military security of drilling sites, gas should be around $12-$15 per gallon.

yea why youre at it, throw in the war in iraq. because that is at least 75% of the motivation for us being there in the first place.

but please, please keep the global warming nonsense out of it and for god sake DO NOT try to price carbon emissions into ANYTHING WHATSOEVER. this is not about carbon emissions at all. this is about conservation. they are NOT the same despite the seeming relation to one another and solving one ( pricing gas correctly to influence greener consumer choice ) has 0 to do with worrying about carbon. keep the global warming OUT OF IT and one can find a solution to this mess.

    GREAT!!!!!
Make them retool to make a fuel efficient fleet.
The money people save on gas will be used to pay for new cars.

    And take away their perks.
