    I would have thought it would be better to cut the trees down BEFORE creating an artificial lake.

    Is anyone else sick of the words "climate change" being inserted into most articles when it isn't warranted? This program in Ghana is being done to provide revenue for the country, as well as reduce further deforestation, NOT to "help fight climate change".

    Think of the poor submarine spotted owl they are evicting to do this!!! But seriously, M_N The problem with artificial lakes is the plant life does help to maintain the bottom while the aquatic life starts, and usually there is not sufficient demand to procede with the clear cutting of the forrest at that time. I realize that foresight and a little planning and they could have stored the lumber, but such projects are usually government run so foresight is not really their forte.
