Toshiba to slash memory chip output due to supply glut

Toshiba's logo sign is illuminated on the Toshiba building in central Tokyo. Japan's Toshiba Corp. is to make large-scale cuts in output at its semiconductor plants in the country amid the global slump in manufacturing, a local business daily reported Tuesday.
Japan's Toshiba Corp. said Tuesday that it was slashing its production of NAND flash memory chips -- used in iPods and other digital music players -- by 30 percent as the economic crisis hits demand.
