Time to quit playing musical operating systems from Microsoft. Each iteration of Windows promises to solve critical vulnerabilities and mistakes of earlier versions & and to add various doodads and gimmicks that we MUST have to complete the 'Microsoft experience' that put previous OSs to shame. Forget that 95% of all serious problems with previous versions go unfixed or are even less useful for most users. Microsoft's strategy now seems to include brand new OSs every couple of years for MS OS users to upgrade or buy pre-installed, discontinue all support for previous OSs (95, 98, 98SE, ME, 2000 and of course XP) forcing owners of previous MS OSs to upgrade or completely replace their current MS OSs( or stick with their outdated and unsupported OSs!). I bought my current PC with Windows Vista installed (pre-SP1 debacle) less than a year ago & now come a deluge of articles extolling the virtues of Windows 7, with projected release dates from later this year or early next year. Having being duped into using Windows OSs from 3.1 to Vista, enough of this endless go-to loop. I suspect all MS support for Vista will commence late this year or early 1010.I hear Linux and Unix calling, and will henceforth refer to any MS (or Mac) OS as a computer virus to be immediately removed from my computer. 25 years of BS from MS goes way beyond a useful and productive 'fix' and border on stupidity. No more MS viruses on my computer and to all MS 7 enthusiasts, just wait till 2010 when Win 8 will be a must have upgrade or OS, with MS7 support and assistance terminated or available for a fee. Enough already.

I recommend you write your own operating system.

I'm sure you've gained nothing from Microsoft's work. Your business probably didn't use any Microsoft products to make money so they could pay you. You probably haven't used any Microsoft products for your own personal gain, like surfing or downloading porn.

Microsoft's model has worked for 25 years, but they have reached a time in the market when they will have to adapt. They will, or they will go away. They are being challenged on many fronts and maybe your Microsoft-absent wet dreams will come true but more likely, since they are the largest technology company in the history of the world, they will survive and continue to deliver products that you can use to make a living.

If you aren't content making a living then innovate and replace that which you don't like.

Given the choice between two stacks of money, i'll take the money made from Microsoft operating systems and products over all the others combined. Mac O/S is nice for the fanboy base, real power users who want an alternative pick a linux distro, but over the years it's been the power of Microsoft products that has fueled the global growth in the economy as the world transitioned out of a purely manufacturing into a data / information era.
