A similar process occurs with testosterone. The males with higher testosterone, have a higher income, and more sexual partners.

The ladies do not tend to have more partners because of the hormone directly. The hormone modifies their bodies and it gives them more alternatives to choose than the ladies with lower concentrations of the hormones.

Likely the marriage between a high testosterone male and a high oestradiol female will end up in divorce by infidelity.

Biologically we are certainly not made for monogamy.

There was a long period of human history when monogamy made more sense due to dense population and lack of cures for sexually transmitted diseases, this resulted in strict moral norms, sex taboo, etc.

With the advent of modern medicine we are basically free to return to our biological norm of polygamy (actually this is a combination of serial "monogamy" and affairs for the lack of better description).

The good thing from most males POV is that due to anticonception and genetic testing women cheating is much less likely to result in male investing in someone else's children. The tactics used by females - finding a stable provider to exploit and then having an affair and a child with male with better status no longer works (in most cases at least).

The bad thing is that our natural instincts are no longer compatible with the conditions we live in and to make it even worse are actively exploited by media and corporations, as a result living in a modern society leads to a lot of frustration for everyone involved.
