February 17, 2009 by Adam Plowright
An employee of Japanese electronics giant Toshiba displays the company's Portege smart phone (right) and prototype model of an external direct methanol fuel cell battery at the Wireless Japan exhibition in Tokyo, July 2007. Leading mobile phone manufacturers have said they have agreed to produce a standardised charger for the industry in a move set to save money for consumers and reduce waste.
Leading mobile phone makers had good news for anyone with a draw or cupboard full of old phone chargers on Tuesday: the industry plans to standardise the device to make a one-size-fits-all.
