In Italy, woman to get sperm of husband in coma: report
February 18, 2009Prominent Italian gynaecologist Severino Antinori will artificially inseminate a woman with the sperm of her comatose husband, in a first in Italy that has drawn Vatican criticism, press reports said Wednesday.

It looks like Monsignor Elio Sgreccia is the only person who sees the man as a receptacle of cells. The woman probably sees the man as her husband, her lover, and hopefully the father of her children. Monsignor Elio Sgreccia mentions, "The consent of both parents is needed for an act of procreation." Obviously both have given consent since "THE COUPLE had DECIDED TO HAVE A CHILD when the husband developed brain cancer a month ago".
I agree with DGBEACH as far as the Vatican goes. Religious authority should never be confused with moral authority.
