Tamiflu not for campers who don't have swine flu
(AP) -- U.S. health officials say all children at summer camp shouldn't be given the flu drug Tamiflu to prevent the virus.
Dr. Anne Schuchat ("SHOOK-it") of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention offered that advice at a news conference Friday. The virus has been spreading in summer camps, and Tamiflu is considered an effective treatment to quell the symptoms.
But overuse of drugs can help viruses become resistant to medications, and Schuchat said it's not a good idea for camps to give Tamiflu to kids who aren't sick.
