Clearwire adds Chinese company to supplier list

August 11, 2009

(AP) -- Huawei, a Chinese company that is edging into the U.S. market for telecommunications gear as a competitor to Motorola and Alcatel-Lucent, has scored another contract win.

Kirkland, Wash.-based Corp. said Tuesday it is adding Huawei to its list of suppliers for the buildout of its national wireless broadband network, which uses the new WiMax technology. Clearwire is buying the same type of equipment from Inc. and Co.

The parties didn't disclose the terms.

Huawei Technologies Co. already has supplied wireless infrastructure gear to two U.S. carriers, Leap Wireless International Inc. and Cox Communications.
