The English version of user-generated online encylopedia Wikipedia hosted its three millionth article -- an entry about a Norwegian actress.
The English version of user-generated online encylopedia Wikipedia hosted its three millionth article on Monday -- an entry about a Norwegian actress.
Wikipedia announced the milestone on its homepage at en.wikipedia.org. "The English-language Wikipedia thanks its contributors for creating over 3,000,000 articles!" it said.
Wikipedia said the three millionth article was about Beate Eriksen, a 48-year-old Norwegian television and movie actress and film director.
Founded eight years ago, Wikipedia prides itself on allowing anyone with an Internet connection to contribute or edit content.
Wikipedia currently hosts a total of 13 million articles in 260 languages.
Wikipedia is one of the most-visited sites on the Internet and attracts around 65 million visitors a month.
