AT&T says it was Apple that blocked Google Voice
August 21, 2009 By JESSICA MINTZ , AP Technology Writer(AP) -- AT&T Inc. is telling federal regulators it played no part in blocking the Google Voice phone program from running on Apple Inc.'s iPhone.
In a letter Friday to the Federal Communications Commission, AT&T said it's not privy to Apple's iPhone application vetting process. AT&T says the two companies have discussed a handful of programs, but not Google's.
The FCC is looking into the matter as part of a bigger push to examine the consumer implications of practices in the wireless industry.
Apple's response to the FCC has not yet been released but was also due Friday.
Google told the FCC that iPhone owners can use a Web browser version of Google Voice, but its features are limited. Google's response was redacted to cloak Apple's explanation for the rejection.
