Android 3.0 paves the way for high-end smarthphones and tablets.

(PhysOrg.com) -- Google Android 3.0 aka Gingerbread, will appear around mid-October with the first headsets shipping in November/December time frame, according to Mobile-review.com's Eldar Murtazin. This information was obtained from Russian blogger Stasys Bielinis in a June 30th podcast that was conducted in Russia.

Bielinis told Eldar Murtazin that 3.0 will feature a new UI with a lot of animation. The recommended minimum requirements for Android 3.0 will call for a 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 3.5" displays and larger. A new resolution of 1280x760 will be available for devices with a display of 4" and higher which will pave the way for Android tablets.

The is completely revamped and could eliminate the need for third party interface shells such as HTC Sense, MotoBlur, etc. Google taking over the UI interface will most likely apply only to the high end devices but let vendors keep their UI for Android 2.1 and 2.2.

According to reports its very likely that Android 3.0 will be the platform for the Android tablet that Verizon and Google are teaming up to build. Back on May 11 Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam leaked some news about the company’s tablet plans with Google.

A spokesperson for Google also stated: “The Android platform was designed from the beginning to scale downward to feature phones and upward to MID and netbook-style devices. We look forward to seeing what contributions are made and how an spurs innovation, but we have nothing to announce at this time."

According to Israel sources, Google is also planning to launch its Google that is scheduled to be released around the holiday season with Android 3.0 headsets. Earlier this year Google had launched its Cloud Music service at Google I/O, which appears to be a success.

Google’s Cloud service enables presenters to click on a button on a web page and allows the music to appear on their phone. Google’s Music service and Android 3.0 may heat up the completion with its rival Apple and their iTunes service.

It’s also expected that Google TV, which runs on an Android OS will also use Android 3.0 which will improve Google TV to stream music.

Google already brings in huge revenue through their YouTube service and using Google search as the major traffic driver to Google Music will definitely be another cash cow for .

Great, now I have to wait another 6 months to buy a phone. I want to buy one and not feel ripped off that something significantly better comes out in a few months after that.

Now here's how that should sound from somebody on this site. "Great! When I buy the best phone there is, they improve the technology in only 6 months! Yay!". Something like that. I personally like that technology is advancing so quickly. Would you like them to slow down? Here's an idea, if you'd prefer they'd hold off and only release yearly, then don't buy every new phone and just buy them when you feel they've accomplished a radical improvement. You don't have to buy every phone that comes out.

for most technologies I deliberately buy the obsolete, always staying a couple years behind. you don't really miss anything and you don't spend near as much. I still love my G1.

I thought google was taking a loss on youtube?

Don't believe everything that you read. Odds are good that 3.0 wont be out till very late this year or early next year. Also, be a man and root your phone. Then you can install 3.0 as soon as it comes out.

Besides, processors are pretty new right now. There won't be anything drastically faster than the various 1ghz processors out now till around christmas. And even that will likely just be a speed bump.

New architectures and dual core variants wont be out for 9 months or more.

Or maybe I made all that up.

Also: SIGN A 1 YEAR CONTRACT!!!!!

hah, the above was meant to be slightly tongue-in-cheek. I love that the technology is developing so quickly; but I will admit that, as a personal inclination, I get hesitant to invest in something now, when waiting a few months could get me something even better. It's a function of what cost I'd rather spend, time or cash. As a grad student, I have a lot more of the former than the latter.

Youtube hasn't announced profits yet, but it looks like it will this year:
