Was this article written by Apple? "Tapping, swiping and pinching finger gestures", outside the actual screen, do NOT replace a mouse.

Apple isn't suggesting as much. Hit hungry websites certainly are though.

When asked if this would replace the mouse, Apple had the following to say: "we want to offer our users the choice.” and “Some operations are better for a mouse, some for a trackpad”

I suppose some Apple fans will lap up what ever they release, before actually thinking things like "do I need this?", "Is it actually useful?" or the best one, "Is there something better out there?"

I have a 4" x 3" touchpad on my macbook pro and I hate it. In fact, I may be the only person alive who doesn't like their apple computer. It seems to take four or five clicks to finally get anything clicked.

When a touchpad can do 477 different things, chances are good that it will misinterpret your action and do the wrong thing.

I hate it, I hate it, I hate it!

there are other trackpads already out there. this isn't the first. It wont replace the mouse either, why do the majority of laptop users still use a mouse with their laptop instead of their trackpad? because it is still better than a trackpad

The right device is a 5 x 7 inch trackpad with a stylus and a glass surface that will let you see your actions on the surface of the trackpad for a few moments. If the distance from the glass surface to the image screen is small enough, the user will be able to write small note-sized words just like on paper. Then just add great handwriting recognition software. This will utterly revolutionize the machine. And it will make tablets completely ubiquitous. Someone tell me, where are the developers?
