Panasonic Mobile Communications Co., Ltd. announced that the company has started shipments of FOMA P901i phones to NTT Docomo Co., Ltd. First adopted by its predecessor, the P900i, the new FOMA P901i offers optional interchangeable decorative jackets, known as Custom Jackets. The new model allows users to customize their cell phone by applying one of the optional eleven Custom Jackets that are sold separately. The P901i can also be used without any decorative jackets, known as "Non-Jacket Style." The P901i comes equipped with a "Jacket Coordinator" as an iAppli allowing users to download and set-up menu icons and standby displays to suit different Custom Jackets.

The FOMA P901i is equipped with an external 2.02 mega pixel νMAICOVICON camera, producing sharper pictures at a lower power consumption. The inner CMOS camera contains 100,000 pixels. Still images can be shown in various Panasonic AV devices through the miniSDTM card slot.

The FOMA P901i allows continuous talk for 140 minutes and on videophone mode for 90 minutes. When folded, it has a dimension of approx. 104 (height) × 49 (width) × 22 (thickness) mm.
