Fujitsu's Biometric Network Adapter for Document Scanners

Leading regional IT and communications solutions provider Fujitsu Asia Pte Ltd today launched the fi-5000N, the world's first biometric network adapter that provides secure one-touch connectivity between document scanners and a network via fingerprint authentication.
The fi-5000N allows up to 32 users to share Fujitsu's fi-4120C/fi-4220C, fi-4120C2/fi-4220C2, fi-4530C or fi-5110C high-speed document scanners in a local area network (LAN) environment, akin to sharing a network printer in office environments.
Unlike other network adapter products, the fi-5000N is loaded with fingerprint recognition technology that allows users to send scanned images to their computer by touching the fingerprint sensor, for increased efficiency.
Once user identification has been confirmed, individuals gain unrestricted access to all the full features of the connected scanner including auto-de-skew, auto-cropping and multi-feed detection. Users can also set individual user profiles to determine the destination directory, image resolution, image improvement functions and other parameters.
Weighing about 1 kg and consumes less than 8 watts of power, the fi-5000N can be connected to the network either by a 100 Base-TX or 10 Base-TX interface.
The fi-5000N is priced at S$910 and is available from June 2005.
