July 26, 2005

Electronics group Samsung said Tuesday it will work with XM Satellite Radio to produce an MP3 player with satellite radio capability.

The South Korean company's U.S. subsidiary Samsung Electronics America said it will use XM's so-called connect-and-play technology, which will allow the digital musical players to receive all of XM's radio channels. The players will also be able to download XM's music, which will allow users to listen to XM broadcast even in places where signals are not available, such as under ground.

The new MP3 players should be on the market by the end of the year, Samsung said."Now, consumers can enjoy XM's live programming plus music from their personal digital music collections in one easy-to-use, elegant player," Hugh Panero, president of Washington, D.C.--based XM Satellite Radio, said in a news release."Samsung's innovation and quality standards are world renowned and these products represent our latest breakthrough into satellite radio technology," stated D.J.Oh, president of Samsung Electronics America.
