Briefs: China Mobile in 7-city network expansion
March 29, 2006A China Mobile subsidiary has signed France's Alcatel to take part in an expansion of wireless service in seven Chinese cities.
Shanxi Mobile will be using Alcatel's Evolium GSM/EDGE solutions for upgrades in seven cities in Shanxi province that will extend service to another 3 million subscribers.
The contract, along with a second deal for spare parts, is worth 24 million Euros ($28.8 million) to Alcatel and is the 11th contract for GSM (Global System for Mobile communications) network expansion entered into with Shanxi Mobile since 1996.
