In Brief: Seagate's whopper 750 GB hard drive

Tech analysts were buzzing Thursday over the Seagate Barracuda, a computer hard drive with a dazzling 750 gigabyte storage capacity.
Seagate unleashed the Barracuda this week to media cheers that it would set new standards for data management for desktop computers.

PC World said Wednesday that in its performance testing, Barracuda "excelled across the spectrum."

The hard drive needed just over two minutes to write a 3.06GB file of folders, the authoritative tech publication reported.

The device uses "perpendicular recording" to store data in a vertical fashion rather then horizontally.

Seagate will soon ship the Barracuda with a price tag of nearly $600.
