Nokia adding Symantec security to phones

October 6, 2005

Nokia will include Symantec's mobile security solution in some of its mobile phones and devices to protect them against malware threats.

The two companies said Thursday Symantec Mobile Security would be pre-loaded into its Series 60 line of smartphones and Symbian OS-based mobile devices.

The ounce of prevention is aimed at keeping users' personal information and business financial data from being pinched as mobile phones and other handheld communications devices become more sophisticated and an increasingly tempting target for hackers and identity thieves.

Thursday's news release said the agreement was the result of two years of design collaboration between Nokia and California-based Symantec.
