India frets mobile-phone congestion

Indian officials are warning that the boom in the cell-phone market may be too much for the nation's infrastructure to handle.

A report released Thursday by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India concluded that many cities had congestion rates up to 20 times the normal amount due in large part to inefficient interconnections between private wireless operators and state-run BSNL.

SiliconIndia reported that the report found few indications that the situation would be addressed in the near future.
